The BEYA Metaquake Symposium kicked off Thursday with a full agenda. Topics range from understanding how the Metaverse achieves wealth and health, to experiencing an alternate reality.
The first panel discussed the difference between the metaverse and digital twins, two buzzwords that quickly became household names. The moderator is Shea Richburg, co-founder of the Future Wise Group. Look at STEM City.
Christine Burkett, chief executive of consulting firm Promising Integrations, said she sees virtual worlds as replicas of reality. “It gives you the ability to do things that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to do,” she explains. For example, in “Avatar: The Path of Water” there are no live actors on the screen, everything is created and enhanced digitally.
Jesse Alton is co-chair of the Open Metaverse Interoperability Group (OMI), where he mentors Metaverse founders and investors. He described the metaverse as the digital equivalent of our universe.
“Not that we were expecting it,” Alton said. “Once you create your first MP3, your first PDF, all the digital photos you take are already in the metaverse. Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) define how we experience them.”
A decade ago, Burkett plunged into research testing self-driving cars that would launch in 2023. “I don’t think people realize how long it takes to turn a concept idea into production.”
On how digital twins can enhance the metaverse for ordinary people, Neil Haldar, vice president of revenue and marketing at Streamline, said that as the metaverse expands the scope of research, digital twins are bringing the metaverse to life.
He also added that digital twins are critical to the Metaverse, as importing these data provides the basis for performing functions that can be performed in 3D, immersive or non-immersive worlds and experience reality with a slight twist.
“This should make the Metaverse more useful and informative for you,” Alton said. “You can get the digital twin that comes with the car. The spark plug goes out and you can walk up to the digital twin and see the spark plug go out in real time instead of scratching your head.
Burkett added that Siri is the best everyday use of the digital twin. “That’s how it automatically starts ordering things and gives you an idea of what to order. The digital twin is like the process of the human brain.”
Other practical applications of implementing digital twins in the environment to teach people how to succeed in the real world include:
In another session, Burkett discussed the impact of the virtual world on social media with Calvin Young, executive director of the Illinois National Guard Association.
“What I’m doing in the Metaverse space is PTSD. At least 22 veterans kill themselves every day,” he said, adding that the crisis has prompted their team to partner with a game company and create a virtual reality world to help veterans. interact with social networks. workers or healthcare workers. “We envision that this virtual reality space will help us deal with post-traumatic stress disorder better than we do now.”
